Electronic Toll System

Salik (سالك — Arabic for "clear and moving") is Dubai's electronic road toll system, launched on July 1, 2007 by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Using RFID technology and ANPR cameras, it automatically deducts tolls as vehicles pass under gantries — no stopping, no barriers, no cash.

How much does a Salik tag cost?

AED 100 when purchased in person at service stations (includes AED 50 balance). Online purchase costs AED 120. Starting June 1, 2026, a 5% VAT applies to tag activation fees.

What is the minimum recharge amount?

The minimum top-up is AED 50 per transaction, in multiples of AED 50, up to a maximum of AED 50,000 per transaction.

What happens if my balance is insufficient?

You get a 5-working-day grace period from the trip date to recharge. If you miss it, a daily fine of AED 50 is applied. Recharge within the window to avoid any penalty.

Is there a daily cap on toll charges?

No. Each gate crossing is charged separately with no daily or weekly cap. However, paired gates (Al Safa or Al Mamzar) only charge once if crossed in the same direction within one hour.

Does VAT apply to Salik tolls?

Yes. Starting June 1, 2026, a 5% VAT is applied to all toll crossings and tag activation fees. Peak tolls become AED 6.30, off-peak becomes AED 4.20.
